Hello, my name is Erin Endicott. I am a mother, a high school teacher and a daughter, living life in Dahlonega, Georgia. I was raised and started a family right in the middle of Houston, Texas. In 2013, I followed my parents to Georgia with a seven month old and a four year old. Life changed dramatically over the next couple years. I became a single parent, changed careers and found that I enjoyed living life at a slower pace. When I’m not at school or taking my kiddos places, you can find me in the yard working or walking my four legged blessing, Sunny.
Dillan, my daughter, is a freshman at Lumpkin County High School where she is involved in the theater program, Student Council and Podcast club. When she is not at LCHS, she’s at the Holly Theater. Brooks, my son, is in fourth grade at Lumpkin County Elementary School. He loves basketball, video games and being the life of the party.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do (or did if retired)?
I have worked at Lumpkin County High School since 2014. During my time at LCHS, I have worked as a Paraprofessional, co-taught in all academic areas, taught English and taught at Summit Academy. In August 2021, I became the Teaching As A Profession teacher, in our school’s CTAE department. Working at LCHS as a teacher is one of the greatest joys of my life. I feel at home with my family of 1200 plus there. Each day I get to experience some of the most impressive young people moving further along on the road to adulthood. I work with the most brilliant and creative people, who work for something other than themselves. I have learned the true meaning of service over self these last nine years at LCHS. Before I taught, I spent ten years in corporate America as a Human Resources Manager for a large compressor manufacturer.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community and your favorite dishes there?
My favorite restaurants are Trattoria, for their meatballs; Spirits, for their great salads and tater tots; and Shenanigans for just about anything.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? And if you moved here, where were you from originally?
Originally from Houston, Texas, I moved to the North Georgia area in 2013 when my parents chose to retire in Dahlonega. I began working in Dahlonega in 2014 and finally built my forever home here in 2021.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you've met here in our community and why?
The most interesting person I’ve met in Dahlonega is the artist, Win Crannell. His artwork is beautifully simple, yet intricate. I think I’d like to sit and watch him draw for hours.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would like to travel through the English countryside in an old MGB convertible, looking at pretty gardens and cottage architecture.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I enjoy watching anything funny, especially movies from Judd Apatow.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Life is much more rewarding when you aim to live with joy in all situations. It’s easy to let temporary circumstances and people steal joy; I find divine gratification when I choose not to let that happen.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
At the top of my bucket list is raising two successful adults. Second is completing my Masters in Teaching and Instruction and someday owning a miniature cow.
Q: What is your go to band when you can't decide what to listen to?
Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Fleetwood Mac on repeat!
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Nostalgic Dahlonega for me is the Picnic Cafe and the Holly Theater.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y'all meet for this lunch?
Author Jen Hatmaker at Trattoria. I feel like she’d like it there.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Dahlonega is the first place I have felt “at home” as an adult. When I walk my pup through town on a pretty day or see the mountainscape as I make the curve driving north on 60, I let out a sigh of relief. Dahlonega is my home.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself teaching high school (year 14-19) and tending my garden, with a grateful heart.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don't know about you?
I mow my own grass.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Outside of Dahlonega, the Painted Desert, Estes Park and the water in Turks in Caicos, are at the top of my list in beauty.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
The best day on the calendar is December 25th, I love the traditions my kiddos and I have this day.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A new pair of socks
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
Dillan and Brooks Endicott, first and foremost. Kathy Harris (my mom), Patricia Vickers (my grandmother), Lisa McClure, Betsy Brown and Geri Flatt are women who inspire me.
Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Clean laundry and a fir tree
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Home is a feeling (okay four words)
