Ellen Mirakovits

I was born in Prince George’s County, MD. My father was in the Air Force and then my husband & I have moved a great deal. I’ve lived in Virginia, Germany, Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey and Massachusetts. I’ve moved back to Georgia 4 times, Georgia is definitely where I’m meant to be. We moved to Dahlonega in December of 2016 and I would love to be able to spend the rest of my days on earth right here in this beautiful mountain town.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have been married 33 years to my wonderful husband Joe. I have 3 grown children that all live within an hour from us. I am 1 of 4 siblings and I love spending time with all of my family.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do (or did if retired)?
My husband & I own a bed and breakfast in Dahlonega. I do everything from marketing, bookkeeping, housekeeping, planning meals and cooking and everything in between. What I love most about the B&B is getting to know my guests and helping them plan their visit to Dahlonega & North Georgia.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community and your favorite dishes there?
Spirit’s Tavern is our local favorite. We refer to it as the “Cheers” of Dahlonega. We always run into friends and colleagues and love just Sabrina & David.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community? And if you moved here, where were you from originally?
We moved to Dahlonega in December of 2016.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community and why?
Anne Dismukes Amerson. Her knowledge of the history of our town fascinated me.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to spend a year traveling throughout Europe and the Mediterranean.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Steel Magnolias and the TV show Heartland.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Spend as much time as you can with your loved ones, including friends. Make fun memories and always be willing to forgive. Remember no one is perfect and we all make mistakes. Owning those mistakes and moving on is what creates good character.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Hiking some of the Appalachian Trail.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Oh man…most 80’s bands. Journey, Foreigner, Styx, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac. You get the picture.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Dahlonega Gold Museum and Dahlonega General Store. I’m a big history fan!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Queen Elizabeth II. Oh my the history that this elegant and amazing woman has lived through. I can only imaging the stories she could tell. We would have lunch in Spirit’s Tavern of course.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite aspect of Dahlonega is the many historic homes and buildings in Dahlonega & Lumpkin County.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I hope to be at a point with the B&B where I’m ready to hand the reins over to the younger generation and spend my remaining days exploring the mountains and towns of North Georgia.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I spend way to much money on perfume. I’m obsessed with smelling nice.

Hmmm. That’s tough. It’s a tie between Austria and Maui, HI. Both are absolutely breathtaking! And you guessed it, the history of Austria is overwhelming.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
May, love the beauty of all the flowers, bushes, trees coming to life. Favorite holiday is Christmas. The 25th day of the month is pretty awesome, all my children were born on the 25th day of their birth months and my favorite holiday is celebrated on the 25th.
